My reflections on Susan Power are filled with warm memories. This lady was charming, delightful, down-to-earth and ready to talk about anything as long as she could find a way to be non-offensive. Her warmth emanated constantly towards all. He demeanor was calm, jolly, and ready-for-anything. Her lovable humor was a refreshing feature contrasting with her serious topics of Indian oppression, and the taboo topic of sex, especially when the elderly are horny. Her rapid, slam poet was intense and profound; her classroom discussions were enlightening. One special feature of her writing that I plan on trying out sometime, is her method of writing the end of the story, and then writing towards that ending. I especially enjoyed how she left open-ended her Roofwalker title story, even though she had an ending in mind. Susan left open the possibility of the girl's father catching her from her leap, but doubted that the man was ready to return to her family. Susan continued to have hope in the strength of the women in the girl's life. I find reassuring how Susan was able to move from fiction to fact and back and forth quite easily without worry. I send appreciation to the people that facilitated Susan's visit. Thank you.
